Default AVIDdirector and Iridium Modem

I have a couple questions as I've been evaluating a few different hardware platforms. I recently stumbled across the AVIDdirector and it seems like an impressive solution for higher end telemetry applications. Have any of you worked with the device and know if it has GPS support? Also, I've read that it support all sorts of wireless communcations:

"GSM/GPRS, CDMA/1xRTT, iDen, Mobitex, DataTac, ReFLEX, Aries, 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth, ZigBee, 900MHz, 400 MHz"

But do you know if it supports the Iridium network?

The AVIDdirector does support Iridium along with all of the other networks you have listed. It also has a built in Framework to communicate with a multitude of machine protocols including analog, digital, serial, modbus, RS485, I2C, Ethernet and more. It also has Web services, M2MXML, SOAP, SMS and other communication protocols. It was designed to greatly reduce development time to have a device that exactly meets your M2M requirements.

If you have more questions, please contact us directly (below) or continue to post on this forum.

Thanks,

Thanks for the prompt response. Does it have GPS capabilities? Also, are you a VAR for the Iridium network? I'm currently doing an analysis of different devices and networks for an idea I have. I'm in the very early stages of my assessment, but this forum (and you) are helping me gain confidence that my idea is feasible.

Yes, GPS is an option you can include with the AVIDdirector for any radios, including Iridium. We are working on a reseller agreement with Iridium and we can provide working systems for development and testing purposes. Let me know any other questions you have about GPS, satellite or other wireless options. This is a great forum for these types of conversations.

I've used the AVIDdirector Model 100 w/ GPS and had great success. The only problem that I've found during testing and development, and this applies to any telemetry device, is that getting a GPS signal indoors is problematic. In my mobile phone programming days this consisted of modifying code, deploying to device, walking outside to test, walk back inside....repeat....over....and....over.
