Default MT-GL and DNS lookups

I was told by Enfora support that the MT-GL will do a single DNS lookup per session on a given name. However, my airtime usage begged to differ, I was using more than twice the airtime when I had a domain name in the Friend IP instead of a numeric IP. Has anyone else noticed this?

Default More info needed

How are you using the device? UDP/TCP PAD or PPP? What is the application, frequency and transport method? What is your expected usage?

If you can share this, I can most likely help.

The device is using UDP and reporting location 100-200 times per day. This should fit in a 500K data plan, and when I don't use a DNS name, it matches my predictions *exactly*. When I use a DNS name, it shoots up to around 2MB per month. To me, this seems like a smoking gun that DNS lookups are the problem. I haven't calculated the size of a DNS lookup, but it seems like it must be doing one on virtually every transmission to chew through that kind of data.

Default Looks like you correct...

I would agree with you conclusion...

The question now is do you really need to use a Name rather than IP?

If the answer is yes then you will have to see if Enfora will "Modify" their FW to support your request. Very tough thing to do w/ any modem vender...

If they do say yes then many questions to answer like, how often would you do DNS look up?

I willing to bet that when they said single DNS look up per session, they were referring to TCP PAD functionality...
