I have started putting some MiniMTs out in the field and have seem a few cases of wildly inflated speed, like 900mph and such. But most of the time things seem OK. Has anyone else seen this?

Enter AT$PKG? on the serial port, though I did a quick check on the Enfora website and don't see any software upgrade packages available to the general public.

It has the latest software that has been released. I contacted Enfora and they told me to configure with:

AT$GPSQUAL=1,3

But they also gave me a new firmware pkg 144, (my current is 142), but they were not clear as to what issues there are with my version. I think I may try using the GPS quality config first, before deploying an unreleased firmware. Do you have any opinion on this?

Also, the releases on the website that I see are labeled as version like 0.7.8, which is the kind of info I get from AT+CGMR, is there a way to relate these to the package numbers you get from AT$PKG?

AT$PKG is a layer deeper than AT+CGMR. It is possible to have different PKG numbers for the same version number. Probably subtle changes... Even though your package is unreleased it is likely it has addressed a couple of issues from your version. Try the GPSQUAL for sure but I'd recommend going to the upgraded firmware as well. The GPSQUAL will allow you to adjust the threshold in the GPS for DOP (Dilution Of Precision) which should reduce your susceptability to crazy speeds, positions, etc.

You may need the new firmware to use this command anyway...
