Default GSM2218-01 MT-GL on label but different guts?

Hi everyone

Is this possible - GSM2218-01 MT-GL on label, box and overall look and feel but different guts inside?

here is what the device reports:

AT+GMM
Enabler-II G Modem

AT+CGMR
MT S/W v0.6.0

AT$PKG
98MT5

Can someone clarify the meaning of 98MT5? What does it mean? Is this really an MTGL or just a case of MTGL with another OEM module inside? A module named Enabler-II G Modem and if yes which revision of the module? I know there are at least 3 different model # for Enabler-II G OEM gprs/gsm modules

Thanks
B

All MT-GL's do have Enabler II G modules. I'm not sure about the pkg response, mine always return a simple numeric response.

They may have the same modems but each device may have some hardware differences for the specific MT product. The MT-GL is not identical to the MT-uL which means that a package design for the MT-GL will not (should not) load into an MT-uL (and vice-versa).

If the user purchased a modem for use inside of their custom box then it would not be "aware" of things like GPS, etc. The modem upgrade package must be aware of the different product types and only upgrade products it was intended for.

PKG 98MT5 is an older version of firmware. The oldest I've heard of is 102MT7. I'm not sure what they mean though PKG 32, 33, and 39 have superseded xxxMTyy versions. There have been new features and bug fixes you may want to get by upgrading to the latest.

Thank you for your reply sollmann,

I have what seems to be the latest firmware but it will NOT flash. It says the firmware is for another product?

Would you happen to have a firmware package that will flash on mine?

Thanks

B,

Firmware upgrades should come from your supplier/distributor for Enfora products. You might try on the Enfora website, it changes frequently and there may be a method to download the latest from their support download page.

Thanks,
Steve

had to have a SIM inserted for the firmware upgrade to work

with no SIM it reports the nosense message about mismatch which has nothing to do with a hardware mismatch. guess bad error coding conditions and message

with the SIM inserted and the box registered with the network firmware upgrade worked like a charm!
