Default Orbit One SX1 Developer Kit

Has anyone here used the Orbit One SX1 developer kit? I'd be interested in hearing what your experience was since we're considering this device for a potential application. Also, how much does it cost?

One of our partners in Austin just received a couple of these kits and I'll see if I can get him to share his thoughts here.

Default Orbit One SX1 Developer Kit

Hello.

Yes, we received our developer's kit yesterday and had the unit up and running in just a few minutes. The kit contains everything you need to configure, program, mount and test the SX1. The packaging is well done, with all the bits and pieces well-labeled and referenced in the quick start guide. There is also a CD with the Windows-based configuration utility and the PDF manual. The configuration utility is exceedingly easy to use, once you understand (per the manual) what all of the options are meant to do.

Some of the limitations of the SX1 compared to always-on cellular GPS units (simplex vs. duplex messaging, line of sight requirements, latency, etc.) will take some getting used to, but for our customer global coverage (including offshore) and self-power were the critical features.

The SX1 itself appears to be very well-designed. It is smaller and lighter than I was expecting, but definitely fully ruggedized for its intended purpose: mounting on the top of mobile assets that are always in the elements, often in harsh environments.

I will report back as we continue our field testing with our customer.

Thanks,

Charles
