I just read an article about a couple new Telit modules that have been announced for 2008. To highlight some key points from the article:

- Telit will be releasing a high-speed module that will support up to 7.2Mbps
- Telit will be releasing a module with a built-in SIM
- Telit will be releasing their firmware over the air (FOTA) service that will allow remotely deployed devices to have their firmware updated

I'm wondering if the FOTA service will cost us anything or will come bundled with the hardware purchase. I can say that it's an exciting time to be an M2M developer!

Are you referring to the UC864-G from telit?

It is pitty for Telit, but the device is already out-of-date before it is on the market. HSDPA 7.2mbps DL, only UL of 384kbps. This is just too small for the m2m market. Check the website of Sierra Wireless...these modules are the top in 3G technology.

Just curious as to why you feel the Telit modules are "out of date". Are you developing high-bandwidth M2M applications (audio/video) or even SCADA type apps? In most cases our applications use < 1MB/month so the Telit device handles this quite nicely

The datarate in upload is simply to low 384kbps, most m2m applications need a higher upload, instead of a download. e.g. camera's.
Companies like a Telit, wavecom, cinterion and enfora, etc.. their main focuss is 2G, but for not being left behind, they all develop 3G. Resulting that the prices are just to high because of the low volume, stay for a long time with the same chipset (investment) and most important, the module is buggy.

This you don't have if you go for a sierra wireless or an option module.
